A cookie is a small file a site stores in your browser. This page lists what we use, honestly, and how to turn off the parts that are optional.
Your choice
When you first arrive you are asked to accept or reject non-essential cookies. Reject, and no advertising or analytics cookies are set — the site still works. You can change your answer at any time from the Cookie settings link in the footer.
Strictly necessary
These are always on. Without them the site cannot function, so they are not subject to consent.
- Session cookie — keeps you signed in as you move between pages. Expires when you sign out or the session times out.
- CSRF token — proves a form submission came from you and not from another site. Session-length.
- Consent record — remembers the choice you made here, so we do not ask again on every page. One year.
- Theme preference — remembers light or dark. One year.
Analytics — optional
Tells us which articles and tools people actually use, so we spend effort on the right ones. Set only if you accept. We look at these in aggregate; we are not interested in following an individual around.
Advertising — optional
This site carries advertising, and advertising is what pays for the free tools and the reporting. Where you consent, Google and its partners may set cookies to measure and to select ads. Where you do not, ads may still appear but are not personalised using cookies set here.
You can also opt out independently of us: personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, and participating vendors at aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.com.
Third parties we allow
- Google — advertising and analytics, subject to your consent.
- Paystack — during checkout only, to process a payment securely.
We do not embed social media trackers, and we do not run third-party scripts whose purpose we cannot explain on this page.
Turning cookies off in your browser
Every browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings. Blocking all cookies will sign you out and will stop some things working — the consent record and the session cookie are the ones the site genuinely needs.
Changes
If we add a cookie or a vendor, this page changes first.
